Overview
The Electrical Systems Specialist plays a critical role in overseeing the design, coordination, and implementation of electrical systems for maritime projects. This position involves managing the development of electrical schematics and system layouts, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to ensure manufacturability, continuous improvement, and on-time project delivery. The role also encompasses responsibility for maritime electrical installation, support, and troubleshooting as defined by our customers and partners. Additionally, the position includes oversight of the receipt, storage, and issuance of electrical materials to ensure project readiness. Familiarity with related shipboard systems such as piping, hydraulics, and HVAC, along with knowledge of ABS and U.S. Coast Guard regulations, is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Senior Commissioning Manager/Electrical Coordinator.
- Update schematics and arrangement drawings using AutoCAD.
- Review and revise electrical drawings for active projects, addressing Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) as needed.
- Ensure internal designs adhere to construction drawings, industry standards, and shipbuilding best practices. Develop build strategies and module breakdowns in collaboration with production teams.
- Collaborate with ABS representatives and Naval Architects to secure drawing approvals. Review and approve vendor drawings and system designs, and coordinate with design and lofting companies to meet project schedules.
- Perform maritime electrical installation, support, and troubleshooting as required by customer and partner needs.
- Coordinate with trades during the installation process to ensure smooth execution.
- Oversee the receipt, storage, and issuance of electrical materials, ensuring proper inventory control and readiness for project use.
- Review and approve purchase orders for major electrical equipment.
- Provide field support to production teams when required.
Qualifications
Entry-level candidates with relevant internship or co-op experience are welcome to apply; 3-5 years of professional experience in commercial maritime or military electrical systems is preferred.
Military experience, particularly with the Navy or Coast Guard, is highly desirable.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
Familiarity with AutoCAD 3D, ShipConstructor software, and the MS Office Suite is preferred but not required.

- Vessel electrical systems, including machinery monitoring, alarm systems, and power control displays.

- Reading and interpreting specifications, electrical wiring, cable run sheets, penetration designs, and schedules.
- Developing and understanding one-line and schematic diagrams.
